David de Gea's hopes of remaining at Manchester United beyond this summer have received a big boost according to reports.
De Gea will become a free agent next weekend - and United have told him he will have to take a significant cut on his current £375,000-a-week wages to extend his 12-year Old Trafford stay.
United’s last offer is believed to be in excess of £200,000 a week. But the Spaniard is aware that Erik ten Hag has other priorities as he plots how to spend his £120m transfer kitty.
However, according to a report from the Mirror, Erik ten Hag is reluctant to spend big on a replacement for the former Spain international this summer, which could bring United back to the negotiating table.
Despite remaining a polarising figure among the United fanbase, De Gea secured the Premier League Golden Glove for the second time last season, notching 17 clean sheets as the club finished third in Ten Hag's first season in charge.
