Frenkie De Jong has agreed to reduce his salary in order to extend his contract with Barcelona this summer according to Spanish outlet Diario AS.
Barcelona had previously held contract talks with De Jong nearly a year ago under similar terms and even attempted to sell him at the time.
Despite those circumstances the Dutch midfielder chose to remain at the club demonstrated his commitment and changed the narrative around him with his performances on the pitch.
With his current contract set to expire on June 30 2026 De Jong has now agreed to a wage reduction and is set to sign a new deal although the club will still owe him deferred salary payments.
His decision to lower his salary will give Barça more room within their wage structure which could help them register targets like Nico Williams. Additionally Ansu Fati departure to Monaco is expected to further support the club financial flexibility.
