According to Portuguese media outlet Record Arsenal have made the first offer to sign Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The bid was made during the meeting between Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta and Sporting chief Bernardo Palmeiro. The gathering took place in Menorca Spain on Wednesday.

The offer is believed to have fallen short of Sporting valuation of the player. Previously the club president Frederico Varandas claimed rumours about a €70m asking price were false.

At the same time the Portuguese club is unlikely to hold out for the €100m release clause to be paid in full either with a compromise to be found.
