Barcelona paid off Clement Lenglet with €1.5m before terminating his contract Sport reveals.
The French defender joined Atletico Madrid for free but Barca had to pay him to avoid any problems.
Lenglet was set to earn €32m if he had stayed at Barcelona for those two years.
Excluding taxes Barca saved €20m net by letting Lenglet go. If we include the fee they paid him that would be €18.5m saved.
Barcelona could save more money if they sell Ter Stegen and Ansu Fati this summer. Both players are two of Barca top-end earners currently.
Lenglet played well for Atletico Madrid this season forcing his way back into the French national team.
