Fermin Lopez will not participate in the 2025 Under-21 European Championship as he takes a rest following an intense season. The decision was made jointly by FC Barcelona the player and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to prioritise his physical and mental recovery.
The 21-year-old midfielder had a demanding schedule last year featuring in the Euros the Olympic Games in Paris where Spain were crowned champions and Lopez was the team top scorer and the start of the La Liga season.
Barcelona and the RFEF have agreed that Lopez rest is essential to avoid further injuries and safeguard his long-term fitness. Under-21 coach Santi Denia expressed his hope to have Lopez back in future squads highlighting the player quality and potential.
Lopez will now take time off to recover fully before returning refreshed to face upcoming challenges with Barcelona and Spain.
