Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has started talks to extend William Saliba contract amid Real Madrid reported interest in the French defender. Real Madrid are said to be targeting Saliba as a priority for strengthening their defence this summer.
Saliba current deal runs until June 2027 but Arsenal are keen to secure an extension to prevent him from joining Real Madrid.
Berta who has experience at Atletico Madrid is well aware of how Real Madrid operate when a player enters the final year of their contract. A recent example of this is Kylian Mbappe who moved to Madrid after his contract with PSG expired.
Reports from LEquipe suggest that Real Madrid have been in talks with Saliba for several weeks hoping to secure him either at a reduced price or for free in 2027. Arsenal however are doing everything possible to prevent this with negotiations intensifying in recent days.
