Real Madrid are seeking intervention from the Spanish Sports Council CSD or FIFA regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the referees for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona according to reports from El Chiringuito.
The club is dissatisfied with the officiating team led by Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea after he gave a highly emotional press conference in which he described the personal toll of sustained criticism from Real Madrid TV.
In response to the statements made by De Burgos Bengoetxea Real Madrid canceled their planned media session and announced they would not attend any of the pre-game events organized by the Spanish Football Federation RFEF. Sources close to the club have indicated that they expect the RFEF to take action although no formal request has been made to remove the officials from the match.
The tensions between Real Madrid and Spanish refereeing authorities have only grown stronger in recent months. The club is now calling for external intervention to resolve the situation.
