David Ornstein reports that Inter Miami are nearing an agreement with Lionel Messi over a contract extension that would see the former Barcelona forward forward remain with the club into their new home at Miami Freedom Park next year. Messi who joined the club as a free agent in July 2023 was initially set to leave at the end of 2025. Talks are at an advanced stage and Messi 37 is expected to sign soon which would be a major boost for the franchise and Major League Soccer (MLS).
Miami managing owner Jorge Mas has led negotiations stating that Messi future is solely in his hands. Mas hopes Messi will play in the new stadium for the 2026 season. Messi impact on the team has been significant with 42 goals and 21 assists in 48 appearances and he recently helped Miami advance to the Concacaf Champions Cup semi-finals.
