A shocking incident marred the league match between Las Palmas and Celta de Vigo as Las Palmas goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen was forced to leave the field on a stretcher after a collision with Celta de Vigo Borja Iglesias.
The incident occurred in the 24th minute of the first half when Cillessen came out of his goal to challenge for a ball and Iglesias accidentally landed his knee in the goalkeeper lower abdomen.
The blow left Cillessen writhing in pain and unable to continue playing.
Cillessen was immediately replaced by backup goalkeeper Horkas and was taken to a hospital in Vigo for further tests to determine the severity of his injury.
According to Radio Marca the Dutch goalkeeper is undergoing evaluation to assess the extent of the damage.
The injury to Cillessen is a significant blow to Las Palmas who will be hoping that their goalkeeper makes a speedy recovery.
