Newcastle are leaning towards building a new stadium near St. James' Park.
After analyzing all available options Newcastle management is ready to recommend to the club Saudi owners that constructing a new stadium is the best choice. According to The Telegraph the plan involves building an arena with a capacity of just under 70.000 spectators at a cost of £1.2 billion.
If this project is realized Newcastle will have the second-largest stadium in the Premier League—after Old Trafford home to Manchester United.
It is expected that Newcastle will be able to continue playing at St. James' Park for some time while construction is underway as the new stadium will only partially occupy the existing site. The club goal is to have the new stadium ready within six to seven years—by the start of the 2031-32 season.
