FIFA President Gianni Infantino has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde during the team recent La Liga match against Getafe.
The incident which occurred at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez saw a group of Getafe fans make racially motivated chants towards Balde prompting a swift report from Barcelona staff.
Infantino statement comes as a show of support for Balde who has already received backing from his teammates fans and the club.
The FIFA president was unequivocal in his condemnation of the racist abuse stating I am horrified by the racist insults directed at Alejandro Balde during the La Liga match against Getafe.
Infantino emphasised the need for unity in combating racism saying Racism is a scourge that we must unite against to fight and defeat. No to racism no to any form of discrimination.
His statement serves as a strong reminder of the importance of promoting tolerance respect and inclusivity in football and beyond.
