Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has dealt a potential blow to Real Madrid hopes of signing Florian Wirtz stating that the club wants the Germany international to stay until at least the 2026 World Cup.
Wirtz has been heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabéu but Leverkusen are determined to keep hold of their prized asset.
Carro revealed that the club is in confidential talks with Wirtz and his family over a contract extension in a bid to ward off interest from top European clubs including Real Madrid.
Wirtz has been in impressive form this season following on from his instrumental role in helping Leverkusen secure a domestic double last term.
Real Madrid fans will be keeping a close eye on developments as the club pursuit of the talented midfielder continues.
