During the 2019-20 season Vinicius Junior faced significant struggles with finishing often becoming the target of mockery from opponents and even his own fans.

Despite contributing only 9 goals in 38 appearances for Real Madrid that year the Brazilian maintained unwavering self-belief.

In an interview with Cadena SER he boldly stated that he would win the Ballon d'Or by the age of 25.

I work for it. I don't know when I would like it to be at 25 years old at the peak of my maturity. I'm already playing with the best at such a young age. By 25-26 I be doing everything very well playing here with the best players who always help me on the field. I believe I can win it he declared back then.

Now five years later Vinicius is the frontrunner for the coveted award.

This coming Monday he is expected to take it to Madrid.

The Ballon d'Or gala will take place in Paris on October 28 at 8 PM CET.
