Reece James could be on the verge of leaving Chelsea as his agent is exploring moves to Spain and Portugal.

Barcelona and Benfica are reportedly the top options being considered. The Chelsea captain has struggled with seven hamstring injuries since joining the senior squad.

Sources suggest that physios have recommended a move to southern Europe where the warmer climate could aid his recovery. The belief is that the temperatures and slower pace in leagues like La Liga or the Portuguese Primeira Liga might lower his injury risk.

James has also dealt with other muscle-related issues including knee problems which have affected his ability to play regularly. A switch to Barcelona or Benfica could help prolong his career at the highest level.

Although James is expected to return to full training next week there is no confirmed date for his first-team comeback.
