Robert Lewandowski has voiced his frustration with his Poland teammates following their 1-3 loss to Portugal. The Barcelona forward highlighted his role as a striker stating he prefers to stay near the opponent goal rather than dropping back to midfield.
I not a midfielder and my job is not to drop to the defensive line to receive the ball in my own half Lewandowski said emphasising the need for a clearer attacking strategy.
During the match I have to be closer to the area and wait for crosses passes and balls there until something happens he explained. Lewandowski insists that this lack of presence in attacking areas must change if Poland wants to improve.
This is something we need to improve or change he added. Not only against Portugal but in general we dont seem to have the ball often near the opponent area and the role of the striker is to try to do something there.
