Liverpool are reportedly exploring options to strengthen their defence ahead of the summer transfer window. With Virgil van Dijk set to turn 34 next year and his contract expiring next summer the Reds are looking at potential replacements.
Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace has emerged as a top target. The 24-year-old defender has been linked with a move to Anfield especially after the Eagles reportedly sought over £70 million to sell him this summer. However as he approaches the final year of his contract Guehi valuation is expected to drop.
Transfer expert Pete O'Rourke has indicated that Crystal Palace could be willing to part ways with Guehi for a fee between £40 million and £50 million. This lower price tag may present an opportunity for Liverpool to secure the talented defender next year.
If Liverpool can match this reported fee they could potentially strengthen their backline and plan for the future as they prepare for life without Van Dijk.
