Arsenal have completed the signing of midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad for a fee of €32m plus €5m in add-ons.
The 28-year-old Spaniard has agreed to a four-year contract with the option for an additional season.
Merino had attracted interest from other Spanish clubs but he made it clear that Arsenal was his preferred destination.
Mikel Arteta had identified Merino as his top target and the club moved swiftly to secure his signature.
Merino arrival is seen as a significant boost to Arsenal midfield options and he is expected to play a key role in the team push for success this season.
