Arsenal have reached an agreement in principle to sign midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad for a fee of €33.5million £28.4m plus €5m in variables.
The 28-year-old Spain international is expected to undergo a medical and agree a four-year contract with a club option for an additional year.
Merino signing marks Arsenal third summer acquisition following the permanent transfer of David Raya and the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori.
With Merino on board Arsenal focus is expected to shift to further bolstering their squad ahead of the new season.
Merino brings a wealth of experience having played for Osasuna with Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United and Real Sociedad as well as earning 28 caps for Spain including a Euro 2024 winner medal.
His addition is seen as a significant boost to Arsenal midfield options.
