Arsenal new signing Riccardo Calafiori will don the No. 33 shirt a decision driven by the Italian centre-back personal preference.
Calafiori who joined the Gunners in a £42million deal from Bologna has worn the same number at his previous clubs Bologna and Basel over the last two seasons.
Traditionally the No. 33 shirt at Arsenal has been associated with goalkeepers including Mat Ryan with Matt Macey and Petr Cech and Arthur Okonkwo.
However Calafiori request to wear the shirt was granted making him an exception to this trend. Nicklas Bendtner is another notable player who has worn the No. 33 shirt in the past.
Calafiori arrival reinforces Mikel Arteta defence and the team is eager to integrate him into the squad.
Arsenal hopes to feature Calafiori in their upcoming friendlies against Liverpool with Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon ahead of their season opener against Wolves on August 17.
