Manchester United have reached an agreement with Newcastle United to appoint Dan Ashworth as their sporting director.
The move was delayed due to difficulties in negotiating a compensation package which took over four months to resolve.
Ashworth who was on gardening leave will immediately start his role at Old Trafford overseeing football performance recruitment and operations.
According to The Athletic the 53-year-old will report to Sir Dave Brailsford with technical director Jason Wilcox reporting to Ashworth.
