Luka Modric has seen his Real Madrid partner Toni Kroos announce his decision to retire from football at the age of 34.
While deeply disappointed by the decision the 38-year-old Croatian does not plan to do so any time soon on his own. According to Marca Modric wants to continue playing in his 40s.
He never considered the possibility of retiring this summer. Modric is also reportedly close to signing a new one-year deal with Real Madrid.
In fact the Croatian midfielder wishes to continue playing until the FIFA World Cup 2026. He wanted to lead Croatia into that match and make his fifth appearance in the tournament.
But whether Real Madrid will actually keep Modric in their first team beyond the 2024/25 season remains unclear.
Despite being 38 years old Luka remains strong and is expected to play a key role for Los Blancos in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.
